Wedding Entertainment – Fun doesn’t have to be Cheesy

Our image of wedding entertainment has been indelibly shaped by popular culture. We think of the cheesy Boy George impersonator who backed up Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer. We think cringingly of being forced to do the Birdy Dance or listen to Agadoo multiple times throughout the evening. We believe that deep inside every bride lives a big-haired 80’s girl who just wants to have fun, and dance to Tears for Fears, and Michael Jackson and Madonna. But there is no reason that the entertainment portion of your wedding day needs to be buried in cheese.

Over many years of experience we have learned that in order for a wedding reception to be really fun it needs to accommodate the diverse ages and tastes of the assembled guests. When it comes to wedding entertainment and most especially the music the greatest success is achieved when it incorporates something for everyone. Romantic songs and lighting for the newlywed couple, 1940’s swing music and bright lights for the senior family members, and a solid selection of Top 40’s music from the past 40 years for the majority of guests. When managed right, a good mix of music will have people up on their feet and enjoying themselves throughout the evening.

Part of the key to ensuring that your night is as magical as you have always imagined it would be lies in pre-planning. Your wedding entertainment can be as grand or as simple as you would like it. Many special features including slide shows, a special video presentation of ‘your love story’, specialized lights and indoor pyrotechnics are available for your consideration. If you are hoping to avoid the ‘cheese’ effect, it is critical to plan and organize the entertainment in line with the size of your venue and the number of guests you expect.

A great deal of the skill required to be a good DJ is the ability to ‘read’ the crowd and thereby encourage participation. When everyone is up and having a good time there is no need for cheesy songs that force participation. In the end run, you want your wedding entertainment to reflect the mood of the entire day.
